Known as "The Holy Kingdom of Virgins," Virgis is the oldest established kingdom of Suviel and is widely known for the church of Lindree, which houses a large nunnery/convent. It has long been considered to be the birthplace of the famous saint, Elar. Hailed to be Suviel's pillar of justice and beacon of hope, it values hard work, boasts prosperity, and fortifies its kingdom's walls with the largest army in the North.
While originally built as Suviel's capitol, it has decreased its regime in order to better accommodate other nations that have built their kingdoms up nearest their kingdom. Virgis is still one of the richest kingdoms in all of the land, but whispers tell of a darkness that lurks behind the scenes of the once "holy" kingdom.
CULTURE
The culture of Virgis strongly resembles that of Victorian England. Women are "protected" by a male of the family until she is married. Women who never marry are considered to be the most virtuous and are often requested to live in the nunnery/convent. This is due largely in part to the huge role religion still plays in Virgis' society.
Virgis is still very much a traditional society. Men are to go through an extended courtship of women and must have the approval of the female's father or male retainer before a marriage can ensue. If a man is declined his request to marry, he is to cease his courtship and allow the female to be open to other suitors. Equality among men and women is also very similar to Victorian England. Women are thought to be more dainty and are taught things such as cooking, sewing, and child rearing along with the basic skills such as reading and writing.
ECONOMY
There is one national currency for all kingdoms of Suviel and that is Rial. Rial comes in the form of coins weighed in gold, silver, and copper. Rial is higher in value in Virgis than anywhere else in Suviel, as it values riches in material form above most anything else. With that being said though, the people of Virgis are known for their hearty nature and perseverance in the workforce. Often times, men are the primary money earners in a family, as such they tend to take on jobs that are demanding, but have a higher payout. This gives many a more expansive skill-set and makes it easier if they were to change occupations.
Typical occupations in Virgis include laborers (miners, farmers, builders), craftsmen (smiths, tailors, jewelers, cooks), artists (musicians, painters, entertainers), merchants (bankers, traders, innkeepers), and scholars (scribes, teachers, philosophers).Virgis' military power makes enlisting in military services (bodyguards, mercenaries, explorers) one of the most coveted of occupations. Right after military services is the religious occupations (priests, nuns, deacon).
RELIGION
Religious families here pay their respect to the gods, but hail Teril to be their chief deity. Because of their high religious values, those who do not pay annual visits to the church or pray are considered to be blasphemous. Additionally, those who fail to provide adequate reasoning for their lack of participation in religious ceremonies and celebrations are held under the heaviest of suspicions. It is believed in many communities in Virgis that those who lack faith are those who practice sorcery.
Famed for its honor bound monks, Toria is the second oldest kingdom of Suviel and is often spoke of as the "Kingdom of Honor". Since it stands at a higher altitude, the kingdom is often shrouded in mist and cloud coverage. This mist and cloud coverage has caused Toria to have long been a focus of fantasy and mystery. While many of the stories are simply fairytales, Toria's warrior monks do not exceed the legends that speak of their amazing fighting skills and fantastic footwork.
Once an enemy of Virgis, Toria declared its alliance with the Holy Kingdom one hundred years ago. These two kingdoms help make up Suviel's primary line of defense against the violence of the raiders of Masmous who sack villages and cities until there is nothing left.
Toria values simplicity. As such, the kingdom's foundation is built upon honor, spirituality, and beauty. Inside the kingdom's walls lies a very monochrome setting, with many buildings being white, beige and cream colors. This simplicity in building colors is contrasted greatly by the vivid red robes of Toria's monks.
CULTURE
Toria shares many similarities to Asiatic cultures. They hold a deep respect for tradition as well as spirituality. Their beliefs are closely tied into their culture and can be seen in their festivals and celebrations in which pay tribute to the gods. Wisdom is held in the highest regard in Toria, with many of its citizens choosing to study natural arts such as herbology and medicine. Due to their regards for wisdom, Torian culture respects those who are elderly and believes that the elders of their society can guide them on their path of life.
Marriage in Toria is celebrated as one of the most scared of unions and is openly celebrated in large parties open to the community. It is said that a marriage should not be regarded as a private affair because it is the gods who have decided this path for you and your beloved. Because of this, marriages are held in honor of both families as well as the newlyweds.
ECONOMY
Renowned for its simplistic lifestyle, rural lifestyles are common outside and inside the walls of Toria. Their primary crops are wheat, barley, and other grains such as rice. The people of Toria are committed traders and crafters who are known far and wide for their strong and driven work ethic. Often times, women work in order to bring in extra money in occupations that are believed to be more feminine.
Typical occupations in Toria include craftsmen (tailors, jewelers, cooks), artists (musicians, painters, entertainers), warriors (hunters, martial artists, duelists), servicers (messengers, guides, lenders) and entertainment (dancers, musicians, storytellers). Toria's connection to spirituality also allows for roles of spiritual leaders (fortune-tellers, monks, sages) to be wide spread.
RELIGION
The people of Toria respect and acknowledge all of the gods, but their religious focus is primarily on Nem, the god of joy and harmony. Toria also pays its respect to Juxar during times of celebration and festivals as well as Schim, god of honor and victory during times of battle.
Since Torian people are more spiritual, they do not feel ill at ease when the subject is brought up. This is largely due in part to their deep connection to sages, monks and fortune-tellers in order to try and gain a better connection to the gods. Despite their general acceptance of the concept of magic, it is believed that magic is sacred and should only be used by those who were chosen by the gods. This leads to many being suspicious of those who are new to town and claim to be able to wield magic in any form.
Hailed to be one of the most violent kingdoms of Suviel, Masmous is known as "The Kingdom of Warriors." They are a proud people who value strength and conquest above all else. Famed for brutality against even its own people, Masmous earned its bloody reputation through wars lead against Virgis and Toria in an attempt to break down their walls and claim their territories. With each attempt thwarted and thousands of lives lost, Masmous swore to interfere with the two allies as many ways as they possibly could, hoping to dwindle their supplies and sack their kingdoms.
While it is the youngest of the three kingdoms of Suviel, Masmodians are among the oldest of the races who still live. Their lives as warriors can be traced all the way back to the earliest records of Suviel's history, making them the oldest still living native on the continent. This is the driving force behind their wars with Virgis and Toria. They believe that it is their birthright to rule all of Suviel.
CULTURE
Masmodian culture is perhaps one of the more interesting of the three kingdoms of Suviel. It's culture closely resembles a mixture of Nordic and Spartan cultures. Women hold high rights in society here, as they are allowed to be "free" or unmarried should they so choose as well as hold rights to land. Women are given the highest authority over their husband's land and homestead, given the honor and duty of looking after the land and home as well as protecting the homestead by bearing arms.
While women are given a large amount of rights, they are still forbidden from entering the military or partaking in government. This is due to their belief that a man should be the leader, the defender and protector while the women maintain the safety of the home and protect the children. For this reason, men are entered into a strict, compulsory military lifestyle at the early age of 13. Young boys are entered into training schools and taught the ways of war and battle. By the time they are 16, boys are considered to be men and have been enrolled into the military for at least two years of active duty.
Though considered to be uncivilized, Masmous is the only kingdom who does not believe in marriage for power, wealth, or fame. Masmodians are the only people who tend to choose marriage for love as opposed to anything else. While arranged marriages do happen in Masmous, it is often only done at the discretion and approval of the woman.
ECONOMY
As a country famous for war and battle, Masmous is the only kingdom in which Rial has the lowest value. Instead of coins, Masmodians favor trading for tools such as swords, knives etc. as well as trading for things such as livestock and land. Because of this, it is well known that Masmodians are very resourceful people who often lead rural lifestyles . Their primary focus is on livestock, as the lands of Masmous tend to be infertile. What little bit of crops that will grow are things such as potatoes, tomatoes, beans, corn and carrots.
Typical occupations in Masmous include laborers (miners, farmers, builders), warriors (hunters, bodyguards, guardians), artists (musicians, storytellers, entertainers), military services (soldiers, mercenaries, explorers), servicers (messengers, guides, lenders), and spiritual leaders (medicine-people, sages, elders).
RELIGION
Masmodians are an interesting people in terms of religion. They have very specific gods that they worship and acknowledge. Their main god to worship is Mallav, god of war and murder. They also worship and acknowledge Bithra, Farrior, Inad, Romel, Juxar and Frinn. While religion is encouraged, it is not something that is enforced as heavily as it is in Virgis and Toria. People are free to choose their own beliefs, but it is very rare to find those who aren't even a small bit religious in Masmous.
