CODE OF HONOR
READ THIS FIRST
As with any other site, Eternal Saga has its own set of rules, guidelines and restrictions to ensure that things run smoothly and make life easier for all parties involved. While a lot of the rules listed here should be common sense, we included them so that we are certain everyone is clear on our expectations for our players. These rules, guidelines, and restrictions are something that everyone must adhere to.
As such, you must read through this thread before you may begin participating on the site. Please keep in mind that we have not made this information to steer you away from joining Eternal Saga. Rather, this information has been put in place so that we can protect ourselves as well as our players. This information is also here in order to help our players understand how to participate and play the game.
PUNISHMENT SYSTEM
For those who fail to adhere to our site's rules, guidelines and restrictions, we run on a "three strikes" system. When a player violates the rules, they receive a strike. Strikes are formal, written violation notices issued by staff. A PM will accompany the strike with an explanation of why a strike has been issued. Players have two (2) chances to rectify their behavior. If they fail to change their behavior, and violate the site's rules a third time, staff will issue a final strike. Players who have been given three strikes will be banished from the site permanently. End of story.
Strikes and What They Mean:
X Strike 1 is mostly a warning that you should discontinue unwanted behavior. Those who receive only one strike will be placed on a one week probationary period. They will be monitored more closely by staff to ensure that they discontinue their unwanted behavior.
X Strike 2 is for if the unwanted behavior does not cease and the player commits another violation. Upon the second violation, they receive a second strike. This second strike restricts access to PMs, the Chat Box, and Out of Character boards such as The Parlour. This lasts for two weeks. After two weeks, the player should regain access to the restricted areas and their second strike should disappear.
X Strike 3 is for if, for some reason, the first two strikes were not enough to make the player cease their unwanted behavior. This final strike means that the player loses access to the site in its entirety. Their account is banned through their IP and they are no longer allowed to return to Eternal Saga.
While strikes are removed from your account, this takes time and players are monitored closely during the two week wait time. Should you commit an offence during the wait period, you will gain another strike and your wait time will reset to default. If the strike you gained is your third strike, you will be banned.
GENERAL RULES
1. Players are allowed only one (1) account per character. All accounts should be linked to the same email address. In other words, when you create your next character, create a new account using the same email address, but a different username. This is to limit the clutter and to help make it easier on staff with organization. Accounts should be registered using your character's name.
2. Profanity and other mature language is allowed in or out of character, but we advise using such language wisely. Dropping f-bombs every other sentence or even in every sentence is distasteful and adds nothing to your character's dialogue or your standings as a player.
3. This forum is hosted by ProBoards and is PG-13. As such, sexual content is not allowed. Mild innuendos and references are permitted, but adult content of any kind must fade-to-black. You are not permitted, under any circumstances, to post pronographic material nor are you permitted to post content containing extreme gore and violence. If you want to roleplay adult content, there is nothing wrong with exchanging Discord or Skype information and roleplaying said content there.
4. All players should respect one another regardless of race, sex, gender, sexual preference, religion, etc. Do not purposely exclude other players. Exclusion of players is neither cool nor funny. Purposefully excluding others is discrimination (the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, sex, gender identity, religion, etc.) and is not tolerated by the staff.
5. Harassing other players, no matter how harmless you may believe it to be, will not be tolerated. Sexual harassment (unwanted and unsolicited advances and suggestions of sexual favors) are not acceptable forms of behavior for players either. If you or a friend feel as though you are being harassed sexually or otherwise, please contact a staff member privately and immediately. We will put a stop to the unwanted behavior or advances. The safety of our players is top priority.
6. Fighting amongst players should be kept to a minimum. In a perfect world, we'd like there to be absolutely no fighting between our players, but the staff realizes that this is an almost impossible request to fulfil. Regardless, we, the staff, do not condone fighting, arguing or overall drama. In other words, don't be a drama llama.
7. Theft is not acceptable. There is no excuse you could ever give staff to make us believe that it is okay to steal another person's artwork, writing or otherwise. If you need artwork, look into free use artwork. This rule applies doubly to content created specifically for Eternal Saga. You are granted access to this content in order to play the game and become a part of the community, but you may not copy, edit, or steal content from Eternal Saga and claim it as your own.
CHARACTER RULES
1. Players are allowed only four (4) characters. Each new character should be created using the site's Character Sheet and then approved by a staff member. The only members who should appear to have more characters are the staff members who have access to the site's Non-playable Character (NPC) database. The simplest way to tell these accounts apart is by looking at the small avatar. Regular accounts have a spinning circle around them when a player is online and a static circle when they are not online. NPC accounts lack the smaller avatar and spinning "online" animation regardless of if the account is online or offline.
2. Please be original when creating your characters. Do not base them on established characters in and anime, movie, comic book, TV show. It is no different than stealing someone else's content and is copyright infringement. It's more rewarding to spend the time coming up with your own character and creating it than to put in no work and creativity to steal someone else's character.
3. Any large developments in your character, such as: conquests, unions (marriages), destruction of a location, establishment of a new location, death (see rules regarding Combat and Death), etc. should be discussed with and approved by staff and all parties involved prior to it occuring.
4. Do not create any Mary/Gary Sues. No character is completely invincible or absolutely perfect. Even if you were to create such a character, it will not be approved and you will be asked to change the character's information. We're not saying that every character has to be extremely weak and vulnerable, but they do have to have weaknesses. If you don't want your character to have huge weakness, be creative. Even the smallest of weaknesses can be exploited.
5. Please be fairly active with the characters that you create. If you only use one character actively, you should consider relinquishing the unused characters to a player who has less than three characters that will be willing to use them. If you relinquish a character to another player, please alert staff and provide proof of transfer in photographic (screenshot) form. The staff will then allow the player access to the character's character sheet.
ROLEPLAY RULES
1. While we do not have an official word count for players to meet, we ask that in-character posts have a minimum of one paragraph. Single-line or one sentence posting is not acceptable for in-character responses. You will be asked to revise (edit) your post or it will be deleted and you will be notified of this.
2. Players should use clear English and have a basic understanding of grammar. Posts should be as understandable as possible. As such, we want it to be known that chat lingo, text speak, gamer speak, l33t (leet) speak, etc. are not acceptable forms of communication when making a post in the roleplaying boards.
3. We discourage work in progress or spot-saving posts. You should be able to complete a post before leaving it. If you are constrained for time or do not feel as though you are up to finishing your post before you've submitted it, please respect other players by not posting an unfinished response. Instead, we encourage you to wait until you have the time, motivation or creativity to respond.
4. Establish a posting order amongst yourselves and stick to it. Posting orders help keep a thread on track and helps prevent confusion for players. Do not skip other players in a thread without permission to do so. The only time you may skip another player without permission is if they have not done one of the following things:
- They have not posted for at least three days minimum.
- Have not contacted you or other players involved in the thread.
- Have not contacted a staff member and reported a problem/issue.
- Have not posted a thread stating that they would be absent longer than three days.
5. Eternal Saga practices fluid/liquid time. We simply request that you be a little realistic with your timelines. For example, if a ship leaves today, do not say it arrived at a distant land the next day. Even the fastest of ships cannot travel such distances in a short amount of time.
6. Do not have your character be in two places at once (unless they are able to do so with the proper magic). This rule goes along with our fluid/liquid time policy. If your character is in the holy kingdom, it cannot be in the kingdom of blood at the exact same time unless they were trying to expose themselves as a witch.
7. Do not power-play, auto-hit, metagame, puppet master, or god-mod. In other words you may not control characters that aren't your own (unless the other party allows it), make your characters out to be god-like/immortal-dodge-gods, automatically hit another character, or use outside knowledge that your character isn't supposed to know.
Please Note: If you use knowledge that your character has not gained yet in your threads and it is reported to staff, you will receive a strike. You have been warned.
8. Please write in the third person. This is something that helps to keep players and staff from confusing your character writings with personal speech and the likes.
9. Please mark your character's speech with quotations (") at the beginning and end of what they are saying. We also require a font color for each character's speech. This is strictly in order to help their speech stand out from the rest of your post so that it isn't confused or mistaken for anything else going on in the post. Additionally, we ask that you mark character thoughts with apostrophes (') at the beginning and end of each thought. Once again, text colors are required when a character is thinking, but should be a lighter variant of your character's selected font color.
10. When a thread you've participated in has ended, it should be noted at the end of the final post in the thread. If this thread hasn't ended, but is being moved to a new area, please make a note of this at the bottom of your post, stating that "This roleplay continues at _____".
GRAPHICS RULES
1. The large picture of players' mini-profile is 200x300. The smaller avatar is100x100.
2. All signatures must be kept under or at 300x200. No animated signatures. If you are unable to resize an image, feel free to ask Kaisa or another staff member for help.
3. If you submit a face claim, it must be of an anime/manga/cartoon or an original, but similar style. This means that you may not submit real life or CGI face claims. If you are not sure whether your face-claim fits this rule, pose this question to the staff in the Inquiries board.
4. Please post in the Face Claims thread before your character has been approved so that we can prevent duplicates of your character. Nobody wants to have doppelgangers walking around.
CONTACTING STAFF
1. When contacting staff about an issue, please be courteous and as descriptive as possible. Problems and bugs cannot be fixed/resolved if you do not explain or describe the issue clearly enough for a staff member to help. Staff are volunteers. They are not required to respond to you if you are being rude or inappropriate with them. You are more likely to get a response out of them if you are kind and understanding.
Additionally, before you contact a staff member directly via PM, please be sure that your problem has not already been reported or your question has not already been asked.
2. If you have contacted a staff member directly, we ask that you be patient. Give ample time (within 48 hours) for the staff member to respond. If they do not respond within a 48 hour time frame, you are allowed to either PM another staff member, or PM the same staff member again.
If it has been within 78 hours and you've gotten no reply, please alert an active staff member. They will try to respond on your issue and will then perform a wellness check with the inactive staff member to see if they are ill or something has come up to keep them away from the site.
3. If you contact staff, please do not contact them to complain about something that is unimportant or a waste of a staff member's time. If you have a legitimate complaint about another player or staff member, do not be afraid to contact staff directly. We will not scold you, be angry with you or dismiss you. We are not here to intimidate players who are being harassed, bullied, belittled, etc. Our jobs are to protect our players and help them. We never want players to be afraid to contact us.
With that said though, we are authority figures on the site. If your reason for contacting one of us is not valid, we will simply direct you to the appropriate board and tell you that we cannot help you with an issue that is not legitimate.
4. Do not contact staff multiple times just because you think it's funny to annoy, agitate, bother, frustrate, or scare a staff member. The rules for harassment are the same for staff as it is for players. If we feel as though you are contacting staff as a means to intimidate or terrorize them, you will receive an automatic three strikes and you will be permanently banished from the site.
Our safety is just as important as the safety as our players and online harassment or stalking can have serious effects on mental and emotional health.
5. If you believe that the decision of a staff member was unjust and unfair, you may submit an appeal to have another staff member evaluate your case. Once you submit an appeal, another staff member will then pick up your case and review the information to determine if a decision was fair.
If it was unfair, you will be given a lesser punishment that a team of staff have determined for you. If new evidence comes to light during this process or you commit another offense, the previous punishment may still stand or it may be changed depending on the severity of the new offense. Please read up on our appeal system so that you may understand what to do should you need to submit an appeal.
